The Bonk / Vera Violent @ Tricky's McGarrigles, May 18th
Concession of €6 available on door
The Bonk is a broad-based musical project headed by Waterford songwriter and improviser Phil Christie (O Emperor). Gathering influences from 60’s garage, jazz and experimental pop, the band's arrangements bring recursive rhythms and improvised melodies together in loose minimalist song forms.
They released one of our favourite records of last year, The Bonk Seems To Be A Verb, through Drogheda-based tape label thirtythree-45. Since its release, recordings have been continuing apace with the bands live appearances and another collection of tracks is planned for release later in 2018.
"Incorporating textures as diverse as indecipherable growling vocals, washboards, shimmering synths and improvised melodies, TBSTBAV is dynamic, addictive and exceptional." (Totally Dublin)
Support comes from Sligo based experimental rock act Vera Violent. Check out their new album here.
